Production efficiency services

OEE baseline measurements.

The OEE figure is an efficiency figure obtained by multiplying the three main productive elements:‍

  • Relative visiting time.
  • Relative production efficiency.
  • Relative quality.

OEE Implementation of the 3rd step.

Select the Pilot area.

  1. To start with, you should measure a small area, a single piece of equipment, a production cell or a line.
  2. Where to measure.
  • The best measure is clearly identified bottlenecks in production, if these are known.
  • In any case, you choose the equipment that will produce uninterrupted production. For example, not waiting for the next processing batch, etc.
  •      3. Automatic or manual measurement?
  • Manual measurement is a good starting point for implementing automatic measurement. Manual measurements provide baselines for the OEE at different production stages, which are used to define measurement points for automatic measurement.
  • The knowledge gained from manual baseline measurements of process "bottlenecks" and the effects of eliminating them, serve as a good basis for acquiring automated measurement.

SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) A concept developed in Japan at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s to reduce the set-up times of production equipment.

On a large scale, the concept was adopted by the car manufacturer Toyota, for the tool change of the pressed body panels of cars.

The approach is based on four steps

  1. Define all the tasks involved in the tool change / setting.
  2. Categorise your tasks as internal and external.
  3. Internal = production stop.
  4. External = production is running.
  5. Try to turn as many internal tasks into external ones as possible.
  6. Critically examine all tasks and determine their necessity, train staff, develop policies and aids/tools to speed up performance.
